Wall Plug, the cell phone yokai

Winter 2016
Colored pencil & 8B pencil on blue mat board

Wall-Plug was created to fulfill a create-a-yokai assignment for my Japanese art history class. Here’s the story:

Following the invention of the smart phones, Americans have spent more and more of their daily lives focused on a digital screen. Wall-Plug’s source of power is the human interactions taken from your daily life by the cell phone. As Wall-Plug is fed, it grows bigger and more capable of spiritually influencing your attention back into your cell phone. In order to take back control, we must force ourselves to reach out from our digital presence and acknowledge the world around us.

We’re living in an ever-changing world powered by technology. Stay social!
